Mark's record of the Good News of Jesus Christ is considered the first of the four gospels to be written down. In his record, the writer stresses the deeds, strength, and determination of Jesus in overcoming evil forces and pushing back on the power of imperial Rome. The Gospel of Mark also emphasizes Jesus' Passion, predicting it as early as chapter 8 and devoting the final third of the Gospel (chapters 11–16) to the last week of Jesus' life.
The Gospel of Mark is also the core gospel specified by the Revised Common Lectionary for this church year, which Pastor Pete uses as his guide for selected passages for weekly worship. This makes this Bible Study even more relevant for 2024.
