What does it mean to become the kind of community Jesus calls us to be?
This Fall at Pleasant Hill, we will journey through the teachings of Jesus in Matthew as we explore what it means to become the beloved community. Jesus calls us into a community shaped not simply by what we believe, but by how we live together. It is a community where relationships are restored, forgiveness is practiced, grace is freely given, love takes priority, gifts are put to work, and Christ is encountered in those we serve.
John Wesley understood that following Christ is never a solitary endeavor. We grow in holiness together, and our love for God becomes visible through our love for one another and our neighbors. The beloved community is not something we simply discover. By God's grace and the work of the Holy Spirit, it is something we are continually becoming.
Throughout these twelve weeks, we will listen again to Jesus' teachings about reconciliation, forgiveness, generosity, stewardship, humility, readiness, and service. Each Sunday will challenge us to consider not only, "What do I believe?" but also, "Who are we becoming together?"
